First Road Race event of the 2013 season, for Coventry based Team Jewson M.I. Racing riders, resulted in 2 victories and a second place.
Competing the Baines Racing Road Races at Towcester, Northants Richard Evans, who was riding his first Road race for the Team showed that the very hard work, he has put in during the winter break, really paying off. Evans and team mate Richard Schimmell another new addition to the team were in a group of 9 riders who broke clear of the main field on the first of 7 laps in the 45 ml season opener. And both riders showed excellent form to help keep the group clear to the finish, where Evans, not known for his finishing sprint, won the race for riders 45 years and over.
Team mate Richard Sommerville, punctured on the first lap, and the teams Triathlete Greg Ashley, broke a rear gear cable half way thro the race, and had to ride in top gear to the finish which will toughen his legs up for next weeks 45 ml Ultra Running Race across Exmoor.
In the race for riders 65 and over Martons, Barrie Mitchell, riding his first road race for 2 years, finished a very close 2nd, and the ever green ex professional Derrick Woodings won the race for riders 70+, making it a great start to the road racing season for the Team The event was held in bitterly cold strong winds along with snow showers, making it very tough for all competitors.
