Mike Twelves –“Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe,” was in terrific form once again ,proving without doubt that he is the No.1 over 50 Road Racer in the U.K.
National Champion–Twelves who lives just outside Hinckley, won round 6 of the season long “ Percy Stallard” -Bio Racer -National Road Race series, for the 2nd year in a row–What makes it more outstanding is that , he has won every round in the series against the U.K’s very best–in events all over the U.K.—a terrific achievement.
Mike rode for a Professional Spanish Team back in the 70’s and before that was a regular International –finishing 6th in the Tour of Britain Milk Race riding for Gt Britain team–after taking over 25 yrs out of the sport, -Mike started racing again 2 seasons ago, and teamed up with another Ex Professional Mick Ives in the M.I.Race Team.–8 Road Race victories last season , and 12 this season inc. a National Championship, –Mike also takes time out to organize events, –this year he has run the very successful Mallory Park Summer series Tuesday and Thursday Ev. racing , and also promoted the LVDC National Veterans Road Race Championships on behalf of Team Jewson-M.I.Racing–Polypipe.–few riders put that sort of commitment back into the sport.
Team Mate John Stevenson from Warwick , has played a big Part in Mike’s success, and again on Sunday John attacked early in the 56 mile race, taking several riders clear, soon after Mike bridged the gap, exactly as planned and they were never seen by the main field again–in the sprint for the line, Stevenson , gave Mike a perfect lead out on the way to victory–Stevenson finishing 4th in the race and 3rd overall in the series-It may have been a 1, –2 in the series , had Stevenson , not had to miss 2 rounds due to work commitments.
Fast Time Trialist team member Jonathan Wears from Shipston on Stour finished 4th in the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 25 mile Time Trial with a very fast time of 53 mins–27 secs, just 15 secs of a Podium place.
Cyclo Cross Star –Steve Knight –finished 2nd in the Halesowen Cyclo Cross at Bageridge Park , nr Dudley and Team Mate Phil Blacker finished 3rd.
And Mark James finished in 4th place in the Rd 3 of the Welsh Cyclo Cross series at Mansel Lacey , nr Hereford.
