Coventry based Elite Cycling team “Team Jewson M.I.Racing Polypipe”started their 2014 Road Racing season with victory. Hinckley based team member and former British International and Professional (in Spain) Mike Twelves, showed excellent early form, when competing in the Nene Valley promotion at Towcester, Northamptonshire on Sunday riding in the 42 mile event which was for 40 45 and 50 cat riders, Twelves was part of a breakaway group the formed on the first of 7 laps, at the end of the 2nd lap, only Twelves and 2 younger riders were left, and they had a lead of 30 secs over the main field, which they maintained until 2 laps to go, when several riders bridged to gap,
the group staying clear to the finish, Twelves, easily winning the 50+ race Team mate John Stevenson (Warwick) finished in the next group and was 3rd in the 50+ race. And team mates Richard Evans and Richard Shimmell, finished in the main pack

In the Race for riders 55 yrs and over Former National Champion John French and 6 other riders powered clear on the first of 6 laps, never to be seen again, French always the strong rider in the group. With 2 laps to go French broke clear and only former Professional, and Olympic and World Championship rider, Bob Downs go with him, and they stayed clear to the finish, with Downs, using his very fast finish to gain victory and French taking 2 place meanwhile Team Mate Ray Robinso, had been chasing the whole race, on his own and came in with a few other riders who had caught him ½ mile to go, he finished 2nd in the 60 yrs race, and Barrie Mitchell (Marton) came in with the main field, some 3 minutes behind the winner. To finish 2nd in the 65+ race.

In total 1 victory 3 seconds and 1 third A great start to the season.

New Team member 19 year old Luke Markham, who lives at Rugby may have to delay the start of his season, after he passed out whilst underwater swimming at his local baths, and had to be taken to Hospital where hi will remain for a couple of days, Team Director Mick Ives said “I was shocked to hear the news, but it looks as if things are OK, and Luke can’t wait to get back to his Cycling, and expects to race for his new team very shortly It certainly was a scare we all wish Luke a speedy recovery”

Team Member 19 yr old Michael Riley had his 2 Race Cycles stolen last week, when thieves broke into his house 1 cycle is a Road Race Bike in Black with Baldini graphics, the other a Graphite Grey Carbon Trek with Fulcrum Wheels and Blue Michelin Tyres and Dura Ace components, and one with any information should contact Team Director, Mick Ives on mickivesbikeking@gmail.com, ASAP.
