There were 4 Victories for Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe in Regional Cyclo Cross Championships.
The Coventry based Cycling Team dominated Veteran Championships in both the Welsh and The Midland Cyclo Cross Championships on Sunday.
World Masters Champion Phil Roach retained his Welsh Championship in deep mud on a new course at Colyn Bay. His Son Stephen made it a family celebration when he won the Senior Championship as well. Stephen is a Professional rider, riding for Raleigh Cycles.
Nearer to home, the Midland Championships at Newport Shropshire was always going to be tough to win because the area for the Championships includes all of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire. Once again Team M.I.Racing produced the goods. Martine Verweig won the Ladies Veteran Championship- her first Area Championship win, which will give her confidence for the forthcoming National Championships in 1 months time at Shrewsbury. And Stephanie Peters riding for the first time since breaking her Shoulder in September finished in 5th place. She is still undergoing treatment for her injury. Carl Sturgeon riding his first season for the Team , won the 40-44 Championship, with Mark James -3rd. Steve Knight finished in 3rd place in the 45-49 Championship. Coventry’s Peter Busby was 5th in the 50-54 Championships after losing time with a bike change, and team mate Geoff Giddings finished 3 secs behind in 6th place.
Hinckley member Kirby Bennett dominated the 55-59 race, making it win number 8 this season. In the 65-69 Championship, Nuneaton member John Gabriel finished 2nd and Barrie Mitchell from Marton finished 1 place behind in 3rd. Baginton’s World Masters Champion 76 yr old Mick Ives finished 2nd in the 70+ Championships.
