Coventry based Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe got off to a cracking start to the British Cyclo Cross Trophy series , when their National Champion Phil Roach ( Rugby ) , was a convincing winner of Round 1 at Shrewsbury.
Roach was clearly in devastating form and out to prove that his National Championship victory at Derby in January was no fluke. Attacking and leading from the start, he fell 3 times on the first lap, slipping on greasy corners by going too fast, and dropped back to 5th place but once he had mastered the conditions he tore through the field to take victory by over 30 seconds from former British Senior Champion and Ex Professional Chris Young. Roach now leads the 2014 series.
