Number 6 for Atkins!

Kenilworth’s star Cyclo Cross rider Darren Atkins, Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe–McCann– notched up his 6th victory of the season, when competing in the latest round of the West Midlands series held at Top Barn near Worcester on Sunday.

The race turned out to be a battle between Atkins and his tough rival Nick Whitley from Wrexham. Whitley had finished 2nd to National Champion Nick Craig the day before at the National Series event at Torbay, Devon.

Atkins and Whitley soon had a big lead over the rest of the field and at half distance Atkins put in a big attack to ride clear and take yet another victory, with the Midland Championships just 1 week away and the World Championships the following weekend, form looks good. As extra training Atkins rode the 46 mile back home.

Steve Knight finished strongly in 5th place after stopping early on to replace a shoe, with Wellesbourne’s Jimmy Goodwin in 32nd place.

In the Veteran over 60 race won by former Professional and multi British Champion Chris Wreghitt, Tim Stowe once again showed exceptional form coming from a long way back on the first lap to finish very strongly in 3rd place, with team mate Peter Busby 8th.

In the Lady Veteran race Karen Summers again finished 2nd behind former Professional and Ex World Masters Champion’ Isla Rowntree and 14yr old Jefferson Tear still suffering from a heavy cold finished 5th in the Under 16 race.

Further North –man on form Kirby Bennett was 2nd in a very muddy event at Broxtone Park , as part of the Notts and Derby series, team mate Harvey Levann finished 15th 

and in the Eastern Region event  at R.A.F. Halton– 66 year old Ray Cochrane finished a very creditable 9th., in the 60+ race –Ray is still recovering from a recent bout of  Pneumonia–

Lady rider Lyndsey Newman has re-joined the Team, and will be riding for them at next weeks Regional Championships.

Entries are now being taken for the British Masters Cycle Racing Cyclo Cross Championships to be held at Napton S.Warks on Wednesday 28th December, All entries via Rider H.Q.
