Coventry based Elite Cycling Team–“Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe-McCann” set new cycling records at the weekend when they collected 8 British Championships, 3 seconds and 1 third all in the space of 2 days!
At the L.V.R.C. National Track Championships at the Newport Velodrome in
South Wales in the 50+ race, World U.C.I. 2,000m pursuit record
holder Richard Oakes won the pursuit in a new record time but had to
beat his team mate Antony Wallis’s time as Antony had earlier broke the
existing record so they finished up 1st and 2nd!
Richard Oakes then went on to win the Points Championship with team mate Rob Muzio 2nd.
In the Championships for riders 55+ Hinckley’s Mike Twelves won the points title, along with the scratch championship and was 2nd in the pursuit.
Then the oldest of the team, 70 year old Mick Allen, won the points, pursuit
and scratch and was 3rd in the 500m time trial.
To crown it all, the team of Oakes, Twelves, Muzio and Wallis won the 4,000m Team Pursuit in an new unofficial World Record time for a 4 man team in age group 45-54 years!
Down in Hampshire Malc Moore finished 2nd in the LVRC National Hill Climb Championships for riders 60+ – the climb was Conholt Hill at Vermhem Dean.
The teams Cyclo Cross star Steve Knight rode a brilliant race in round 1 of
the National series at Derby, finishing a close second to his friend and
Coventry rider Darren Atkins, son of 13 times British Champion Joh
Atkins – the 2 were well clear of the field.
In the under 14 race, Mick Ives Academy rider Josh Jackson, rode
brilliantly to finish 5th, having started back on the 5th grid, earning
much praise from Team Boss Mick Ives.
To cap a brilliant weekend, Warwick member John Stevenson scored his 2nd Road Race victory of 2019 when he won the Kenilworth Wheels promotion at Bearley near Stratford on Avon, team mate Mark Wise finished 5th.
The Team has now won over 100 races this season!
