Podium for Roach
It’s been a long time coming this season but Ex World Masters Cyclo Cross Champion Phil Roach, riding for “Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe–McCann” finally made the Podium in one of the major U.K. Events at the weekend.
Competing in the latest round of the National Trophy series, Phil travelled to Barnoldswick in Yorkshire, determined to find some sort of form that would help with his preparation for the forthcoming National Championships on the 14th Jan 2023.
This season he has lost out on races and training time due to work commitments, often taking him abroad including several visits to America and as a result he has missed valuable racing – something which he thrives on, normally competing in at least 2 events a week during the Winter season. Add to this a bout of illness and this has left him far below the level he was aiming at, dut Sunday’s ride was exceptional, on a frozen, rutted, course made worse by light rain with 1 section taken out because it was impossible to ride on Roach showed his amazing Bike handling skills to finish less than 1 minute behind the U.K. number 1 rider and overall leader of the series Grant Johnson.
With 1 month left before the Championship, and several big events over the Christmas period, Phil will be hoping that his form will return quickly.
It was also a brilliant ride by Coventry based Peter Busby who finished in 12th place , using his Mt Bike skills on the tricky conditions, and team mate Alan Parsons finished not far behind in 15th place , one of his best rides this season.
Entries for the British Masters Cyclo Cross Championships to be held at the Fisheries, Dag Lane, Napton, S.Warks, have now exceeded 70 and are still coming in from all over the U.K. The Event is on Wednesday 28th December starting at 11-00am and admission is free, but car parking £3-00 – further details can be obtained from mickivesbikeking@gmail.com
The Event is being organised by Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe–McCann for the 16th time .
