Treble for Atkins!
Darren Atkins, continues his domination in the Veteran class in the Midland Cyclo Cross series following another brilliant victory, this time at the Redditch R and P Promotion based at the Redditch Sports and Social stadium.
The Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe–McCann–7 formation star led from the gun but for 3/4 of the race had to battle with Nick Popum riding for Stratford based team Rotor. But when Atkins put the pressure on the Rotor rider was unable to respond and the Jewson rider won by a wide margin. He has now won the first 3 rounds of the Midland series, his team mate Steve Knight chased throughout the event, but on this occasion was unable to make any impression on Atkins and had to settle for 3rd place. Meanwhile team mates Pete Busby and Brian Tear were battling it out with Busby claiming 9th place and Tear 11th.
Busby was 5th best over 55 rider, Karren Summers finished 2nd in the Ladies over 50 Veteran race just 3 secs behind former National Champion Isla Rowntree, and Jefferson Tear continued his excellent form with a 4th place in the Under 14 race.
More success for the team, when Pete Smith who hadn’t raced for 3 years, won the 60+ race as part of the Wessex series. The event was at Romsey, Hampshire, a welcome return to the sport , for Pete who is an excellent rider at Road Racing , Cyclo Cross and Time Trials, also starting his 2021 Cyclo Cross season.
Former World Champion, Phil Roach, finished 3rd in the Veteran 55+ Central series event at the Milton Keynes Bowl. Roach is the Current National 55+ Champion, and a member of Team Jewsons Championship winning team.
Veteran Time Trial star Mick Allen , continues to make head lines, this time by finishing 2nd in the V.T.T.A. North Midlands 10 mile Open Championships held near Cambridge, and because he was the fastest ride from the North Midlands area, he received the Ron Blyth Mem Trophy.
