Team Enable – M.I.Racing – McCann were once again the dominant team, this time in the 4-hour Mega Cyclo Cross event held at Marston Lodge, near Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

The tough course, with a lot of climbing over a 7 km circuit, was contested by both individuals and teams of 2. Team Enable was able to field 12 of their riders in the event, and a total of 210 riders took part.

The Pairs race was won by Under 23 Team rider Jules Chamberlain from Team Enable, riding with his father Roy, who races for Team Corley but was once a member of Coventry Olympic CC. They covered 17 laps to win the team category by miles, leading from the start.

In the combined age class of 100 years+, Geoff Giddings and Nick Popham covered 14 laps to finish 2nd. Kirby Bennett and Tim Stowe finished 5th, also completing 14 laps. Ex-jockeys Ray Cochrane and Richard Peram covered 9 laps for 18th place.

In the Mixed Team category, Lindsey Newman and Ryan Henry riding in the 80-99 combined age category finished 2nd.

Time Trial rider Andy Jackson, participating in only his 3rd ever Cyclo Cross race, finished with 11 laps for 24th place in the Solo Vet 50-60 age category.

The event was held in fine/warm weather, just in time to beat a thunderstorm as soon as the race had finished, much to the relief of the riders.

Elsewhere, the team’s riders were busy in events around the country.

Nick Whitley finished 2nd in the Southern Region MTB Championships in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. In the combined event, he won the 50+ race, counting towards the Welsh National MTB series, which he now leads.

In the Bolton area, veteran and former European Champion Roy Hunt won the 60+ race at the Midweek Madness event.

On Friday evening, there was more success for Team Enable at the Friday Night Midland MTB series, this time held at Wibtoft near Hinckley. Lindsey Newman won the Lady Veteran race, and with several more events in the series, cannot be beaten for the Overall Winner. Ryan Henry won the 40+ race. Nick Popham lost out in a sprint finish to finish 2nd in the 50+ event but leads the series. Kirby Bennett from Hinckley finished 3rd in the 60+ with Wellesbourne’s Tim Stowe 6th.

Very fast times were recorded by Andy Oliver (57 mins 33 secs) and Andy Jackson (58 mins 43 secs), both personal best times, in the Coventry C.C. Evening 25-mile Time Trial event at Princethorpe.

Next weekend, Team Enable will organize the British Masters Handicap Road Race Championship over a very tough 56 miles, based around Napton on the Hill in South Warwickshire. The event has attracted over 80 riders from all over the country and starts at 11:00 on Sunday, 25th June. The route covers 3 and a bit laps of the Napton-Southam-Priors Marston-Hellidon-Staverton circuit, with the finish on the Welsh Road 2 miles from Southam (parking is very restricted).
