Team Jewson–Polypipe–McCann riders had a very busy weekends racing, competing at 5 different venues around the U.K., but failed to gain a victory despite coming very close.

Hill Climb specialist Tom Parsons finished 2nd in the Birdwell Wheelers Hill Climb on Well Hill, Stockbridge, near Sheffield, just 1.7 secs behind the winner and followed it with 3rd place in the Bolsover and District event at Hardwick Hall Derbyshire, climbing the 615 metre hill just 1 second behind 2nd place.

Tom has contested 7 hill climbs so far this season, winning 4, with 2 seconds and 1 third.

The Teams Cyclo Cross riders also missed out on victory. Steve Knight almost caught the winner of Round 4 Midland series at Bridgenorth but had to settle for 2nd place with team mate Daren Atkins in 3rd place. Leamington’s Seam Maconnamara once again finished in 12th place and Wellesbourne’s Jimmy Goodwin finishing his best position this season in 15th place.

In the over 60’s race Tim Stowe also from Wellesbourne finished 2nd and Peter Busby 6th, Karren Summers was 2nd in the Ladies Veteran event.

On Saturday former World Masters Champion, Phil Roach finished 6th in the Central League event at Milton Keynes Bowl, starting on the back row, Phil experienced several mechanical set backs in his first event of the season.

On Sunday Roach competed in the Wessex League event at Swindon, and finished  strongly in 2nd place. His next event will be Round 1 National Trophy series at Derby.

On Saturday 1st October, Team M.I.Racing and Coventry Cycling Club hold their Hill Climb Championships on Burton Dassett and then on Edge Hill starting at 10 am – entries on the day.

They will be competing for the Mt Etna Trophy where the current holder is Rob O’Connor.
