Coventry’s only Elite Cycle Race Team “Team Jewson—M.I.Racing—Polypipe—McCann” won their 2nd U.C.I.World Masters Championships yesterday evening at the Manchester Velodrome, this time it with 56 year old Mike Twelves.
Mike dominated the 15 km Points Race from start to finish, for riders 55-59 yrs and added his Gold Medal to the Silver Medal he won in the 4,000 km Pursuit Championship on Monday Evening.
On Tuesday Evening Antony Wallis set a new World Record time, when he won the 4,000 met Individual Pursuit Championship for riders 50-54yrs beating team mate Richard Oakes in the final.
To win a medal at the World Championships is a fantastic achievement—but to win 2 World Championships, 2 Silvers and a World Record is almost beyond belief.
But as Team Boss Mick Ives explained, “It’s not finished yet! On Saturday the Team of Wallis—Twelves—Oakes and Muzio, go for the World Team Pursuit Championship, as clear favourites, could it be yet more World Championships? I would like to think so, they will also be aiming to beat the World Record a well, something they believe is well within their grasp. I am so proud of my team and so pleased for their supporters.”
