Stevenson get his win in cycling and Payne podiums in Triathlon.
55 year old John Stevenson, a member of Coventry’s Elite Cycling team “Team Jewson—M.I.Racing—Polypipe—McCann“ finally got the victory he has been chasing all season.
Stevenson, a long time member of the team and Warwick’s leading racing cyclist, has had a season of podium places, but victory in the “Tour de Thorpe“, near Tamworth, was the first time he was number 1!
The 50 mile race stayed together for most of the event, with just 1 rider making a break with 1 of the 5 laps to go but he was reeled in before the finish and it was left for riders to contest a huge bunch sprint, with Stevenson making no mistakes this time.
Young Coventry Triathlete—19 year old Tom Payne, also a member of Team M.I.Racing, finished a brilliant 3rd in the Pitsford Water Triathlon over the Olympic distance of 1,500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run. This was only Tom’s 4th triathlon but he has already qualified for the European Duathlon Championships later in the season.
The teams leading Track and Road rider, Mike Twelves is currently away training in Spain in preparation for the forthcoming National Road Race Championships and the World Track Championships.
