6 Victories for Team Jewson!
A remarkable weeks racing for Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe–McCann.
The youngest member of the Elite Cycling Team –Jefferson Tier who is just 14 years old, won the Under 16 years Cyclo Cross race at Fillongley near Coventry on Sunday. This was his first race of the season, and the he was the youngest rider in the event!
At the other end of the age scale – the oldest team member – 76 year old Mick Allen was back in winning form following 2 weeks side lined with Covid. Allen was fastest 70+ rider in the E.C.C.A. Open 10 mile event at 6 Mile Bottom, near Cambridge with a time of 23 mins 31 secs and an age gap of 62 years.
There was more success at Fillongley, when Wellesbourne’s Tim Stowe produced another storming ride to win the over 60s event with team mate Perter Busby in 2nd place.
Karren Summers also got her season off on winning ways – the lady veteran member winning her event with ease.
In the Race for riders 50 and over, Kenilworth’s Darren Atkins, 3rd in last seasons World Championships, showed he is almost back to his best form. Atkins chased down the early leader, and then suffered a puncture, which put him way off the pace but a tough chase once again saw him catch the leader, only to have a mechanical problem in the closing stages resulting in yet another bike change and pushing him back down the field eventually finishing in 4th place just ahead of team mate Steve Knight in 5th.
Leamington’s Sean Macconnamara finished in 12th place after a nasty crash and Wellesbournes Jimmy Goodwin in 27th position.
Over in Leicestershire Kirby Bennett kept the team colours flying by winning the over 60s class in the Round 1 of the Leicester Cyclo Cross series beating last seasons over 60 World Champion Pete Harris and
finishing in 3rd place overall in the 50/60 event.
Coventry’s Andy Jackson recorded a personal best time when he competed in the Icknield RC Open 10 mile event near Tring, Hertfordshire with a time of 21 minutes 52 seconds – the first time he has beat 22 minutes.
Mid week Mark Wise was fastest with 10 minutes 35 seconds and Andy Jackson 2nd fastest in 11 minutes 11 seconds in the final Coventry CC evening 5 mileTime Trial of the season.
All in all a great week for Team Jewson, at 5 different locations in the U.K!
