CHAMPIONSHIP JERSEYS FOR TEAM ENABLE
There wasn’t much rest to be had over the Christmas and New year period for members of the Coventry based cycling team -Team Enable-M.I.Racing-McCann. Boxing day saw the 69th running of the Kenilworth Cyclo-cross race. The traditional, festive event is the oldest Cyclo-cross race in the country and attracts riders from far and wide. Fine weather saw massive crowds on Kenilworth Common and they were treated to some exciting racing.
Carl Sturgeon won the 50-59 age category race (6th place overall) and in the same category, Nick Popham finished in 2nd place (9th place overall). Carl proved to be a real entertainer and crowd pleaser with his airborne antics off the top of the first steep descent. In the 60+ age category, Kirby Bennett finished in 3rd place (32nd place overall). Colin Miller finished in 21st place overall and Tim Stowe finished in 57th place. Into the new year, January 6th saw round 6 of the Cyclo-cross National Trophy Series held in Yorkshire. Nick Whitley rode to an excellent 5th place. Nick is preparing for the British Cyclo-cross Championships in Falkirk on the 13th January.
Also on the 6th January, team riders won the first National Championship jerseys of 2024. The British Masters National Cyclo-cross Championships, held at Misterton Hall near Lutterworth and organised by Team Enable-M.I.Racing-McCann, attracted a bumper field of almost 100 riders. Perfect weather conditions and the beautiful setting made for a brilliant event and some excellent racing. Nick Popham won the C category age group and Darren Atkins won the D category age group. Both riders were presented with their National Championship jerseys and medals by the owner of Misterton Hall, Mrs Craven. In the B category race, Colin Miller finished a brilliant 2nd place. In the D category age group, Alan Buxcey finished 14th and James Goodwin 15th. In the E category age group race, Peter Busby finished 4th with Alan Parsons in 8th place. In the F category age group, Kirby Bennett finished an excellent 3rd place, with Tim Stowe just behind him in 4th place.

The following day saw round 6 of the Leicestershire Cyclo-cross league, also held at Misterton Hall. 12 riders from Team Enable-M.I.Racing-McCann raced in excellent conditions again.
In the Youth category, Jefferson Tear-Verweij was the clear winner, over 1 minute ahead of the second placed rider.
In the women’s 50-59 age category, Lindsay Newman finished in 2nd place.
In the men’s senior race, Tom Bradley finished in 25th place after suffering a puncture early in the race.
In the men’s 50-59 age category race, Darren Atkins led until suffering a puncture on lap 4. Losing places, he fought back hard to finish in 2nd place, just 20 seconds behind the winner. In the same age category, Nick Popham finished 5th, Andy Jackson 51st and Alan Buxcey 70th. In the 60+ age category, Kirby Bennett finished in first place, topping off an excellent weekend of racing for him. Then in same category, Pete Busby finished 4th, Alan Parson 10th and Tim Stowe 11th.
