Double Top for Popham
It was another weekend of brilliant results for Coventry based, Team Enable-M.I. Racing – McCann.
Racing in the Notts & Derby cyclocross league on the 4th November, Nick Popham won the 50+ vets category race. In freezing, rainy conditions, Nick held off a strong field that included former world champion Simon Hale. So good was Nicks ride, he not only won the vet 50+ category but he also managed to hold off all the younger 40+ category riders to win the race outright. In the same race, Geoff Giddings finished an excellent 17th.
On Sunday 5th, racing in round 8 of the West Midland cyclocross league near Worcester, Nick Popham hit top spot for the second day running in the Vet 50+ category. Under sunny, clear blue skies the classic ‘mud-fest’ course was a tough test for all the riders. Dropping a few places after the start, Popham managed to claw his way back through the field to take the win from teammates, Darren Atkins in 2nd place and Nick Whitley in 3rd place. Another amazing 1-2-3 for team Enable- M.I.Racing – McCann!
In the 60+ category, there were also excellent performances from Phil Roach who finished 2nd and Pete Busby who finished 3rd.
In the Women’s race, Lynsey Whitley finished 19th overall and 7th in the 40-49 age category.
In the men’s veteran 40-49 age category, Ryan Henry finished in 5th place and Colin Miller finished in 6th place. In the men’s senior category, Tom Bradley finished in 15th place.
Away from cyclocross, Hinckley based road rider, Oliver Searle had a brilliant ride to win the Coalville Wheelers hill climb event held on the Polly Botts climb, northwest of Leicester. In a field of 36 riders, Oliver smashed his PB on the climb to take the win by 17 seconds from the second placed rider.
