Enable-1-2-3.

Team Enable-M.I.Racing-McCan got off to a flying start in round 1 of the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross series at the Sports Centre in Redditch, Worcestershire.

120 riders lined up for the 50+ event, some having travelled long distances to start their season. However, it was Nick Whitley of Team Enable, who joined the team in January, who led from start to finish. He was closely chased by teammate Kenilworth’s Darren Atkins, a former World Championship bronze medallist, riding his first race since January. He, in turn, was chased by another Enable rider, Nick Popham, in third place. It was a one-two-three for the Stratford/Coventry-based race team, and not far behind was Steve Knight. Other team members were James Goodwin in 45th and Alan Buxcey in 56th.

In the race for riders aged 60+, Coventry’s Peter Busby finished a fantastic second, behind European Champion Robin Delve. Wellesbourne’s Tim Stowe finished 6th, and Ian Wright 7th.

The Ladies’ 50+ event was won by reigning champion Karen Summers of Team Enable, with teammate Linsey Whitley finishing 8th in the Ladies’ 40+ event.

Colin Miller, riding his first event for Team Enable, finished 11th in the 40+ category, and Tom Bradley 22nd in the senior event.

The North West series also got underway, and former European Champion 68-year-old Roy Hunt finished 3rd in the 60+ race.

Last weekend, three members of the team competed in the International 65km Gravel Bike race at Houffalize in Belgium, with Harvey Levan finishing 3rd in the 50+ event and Roy Hunt 3rd in the 60+ event. Peter Busby finished 6th against some very tough continental opposition.

Excellent results by time trial members of the team in the East Anglia VTTA 10-mile Championships at Cambourne, Cambridgeshire. Simon Law clocked a very fast time of 20 minutes and 52 seconds, Mark Wise was not far behind with 20 minutes and 58 seconds, and Didi Egerton-Warburton recorded a new personal best time for 10 miles with 22:08. Together they finished as the second fastest team.

Another very successful week’s racing for the team both in the UK and abroad.
