Local Cycle Race Team OFF to Flying start
Team Jewson–M.I.Racing –7 formation–Polypipe–McCann, the Coventry based Elite Cycle Race Team were quick to start the delayed 2021 Cycle Race season, with success in several different venue’s around the country at the weekend.
The youngest member of the team, 16 year old Jude Chamberlain, finished 3rd fastest Junior in the Welwyn Wheelers 50 km Hilly Time Trial. Jude is the son of former International and National Champion Roy Chamberlain, who started his career with Coventry Cycling Club and later with Coventry Olympic C C.
Jude who rode a standard road bike for the race recorded a brilliant time of 1 hour 21 minutes 40 seconds and is part of a junior squad being assembled by Team Boss Mick Ives.
Further afield the teams oldest rider, 75 year old Mick Allen won the 60+ section of the Long Eaton 10 mile Time Trial at Etwall, near Derby with a time of 24 minutes 36 seconds. The event was held in very cold conditions along with fog, making racing very difficult.
Nearer to home Jack O’Neill showed excellent form by finishing 2nd in the Solihull 5 mile Time Trial held on the not so fast Birmingham to Warwick road.
Next weekend Veteran members Malc Moore and Rob O’Connor compete in the Welland Valley Trophy Circuit Time Trial near Malvern, and Jude Chamberlain contests the Icknield R.C. 18 mile event in Cambridgeshire.
Bad news for veteran member Jocky Johnson, who was hospitalised following a very bad crash having hit a pot hole whilst out on a training ride. He joins Warwick Junior Jack Fothergill, who also had a very nasty accident recently landing on his face and knocking out several teeth and suffering concussion – both will be out of action for several weeks.
