Hattrick of wins for Team Enable-MI Racing-Townsend Vehicle Hire
After a short break, it was a winning return to round 8 of the Friday Night Summer Series of mountain bike races when Lindsay Newman, fresh from her silver medal in the British Masters Cycle Racing National Mountain Bike Championships, took first place in the veteran ladies race. Teammate Ryan Henry won the veteran race and Nick Popham won the grand veteran race, making it a hattrick of wins on the night for the top Midlands based cycling team – Team Enable-MI Racing-Townsend Vehicle Hire.

In the final round of the British Cycling Cross Country Mountain Bike championships held in Tong, Bradford, Junior rider Layla Bradbrook managed an excellent 8th place finish on the wet and technical course. Layla is the current Welsh junior mountain bike champion.

The team’s time trial riders have continued to dominate much the midlands mid-week TT racing scene. Competing in both time trial bike and road bike categories, riders have produced some excellent results. Pick of the team’s riders are Leamington based veteran rider Mark Wise and Warwick based senior rider Tom Bradley. Riding in the Rugby Racing 25 mile time trial on the K10/25B course near Princethorpe, Wise took first place with a personal best time on the course of 54 minutes and 32 seconds. Teammate Bradley, ever improving in his first season of time trial racing, finished in 5th place on his standard road bike. Bradley’s time was an excellent 57 minutes and 56 seconds and a new course personal best.
Riding in the Redditch Road and Path Cycling Club open 10 mile event on the 22nd June, Wise took the silver medal in the veterans category. In tough block headwind/tailwind conditions, Wise finished in 13th place overall but claimed second place in the veteran age category in a time of 22 minutes and 36 seconds. The event was won by former World Tour rider and former world hour record holder Alex Dowsett.

Road and circuit racing has continued around the country. On the 29th June, Claverdon based rider Jack O’Neill finished in 9th place at the Darley Moor circuit near Ashbourne. Competing in the British Masters Cycle Racing National Road Championships, held just east of Peterborough on the 30th June, Rugby based rider Rob O’Connor finished in 6th place in the race for riders aged between 65 to 69. Derbyshire based teammate Michael Allen had a brilliant ride in the race for riders aged between 75 to 79 to take home the bronze medal.

Wrexham based riders, Nick and Lynsey Whitely rode the latest round of the midweek Litherland circuit racing league. Racing in the ladies E1234 race, Lynsey took a brilliant first place. With a strong ride, Nick took second place in the open 3/4 category race.
