3 more for Enable

Team Enable–M.I.Racing–McCann once again scored a 1,2,3 in Rd 5 of the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross series for riders aged 50+. A huge field was left standing by in-form team rider Nick Whitley. Whitley stormed away from the start, never to be challenged throughout the race. It was Nick’s 5th victory in 5 rides, and once again, it was left to his teammates to take up the challenge. Nick Popham and Darren Atkins had a real battle behind the leader. They were never more than a few metres apart until the final lap, when Popham broke clear of Atkins to claim 2nd place. They were both a long way clear of the 4th placed rider.

In the race for riders 60+, Coventry’s Peter Busby led for most of the race, only losing the lead and the race on the final lap. Peter is still suffering from a broken finger and injured knee as a result of a crash in Rd 3, but his form is good.

In the Under 16yrs race, 15-year-old Jefferson Tier was never out of the first 3, and a long way clear of 4th place. Jefferson only lost 2nd place in the closing stages. The day before, Jefferson had finished 5th in a race at Milton Keynes.

The 40+ race saw a big improvement for Coventry member Colin Miller when he finished in 5th place.

More Cyclocross success, this time in the Leicestershire Cyclocross series, where the team’s only 2 entrants both won. Kirby Bennett was a clear winner of the 60+ race, and Lindsay Newman won the Ladies 50+ event. A few hours earlier, she had finished 2nd behind former World Champion, Tracy Fletcher, in the Notts and Derby series.

Hill climb specialist Tom Parson showed the Team’s colours in the Classic Monsal Head Hill Climb in Derbyshire against the UK’s top climbers. Tom finished a brilliant 6th in a time of 1 min 26.6 seconds, just 1 second outside his personal best time. 165 riders took part in the event.
