Four days of racing at four different venues around the U.K. for riders from Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe–McCann–7 formation–resulting in more success’s for the Coventry based team.
On Friday Coventry based riders Jack O’Neill and his partner Alice Hall along with former resident Andy Oliver (riding only his 2nd race after many years away from the sport and several operations on a problem leg) competed in a special 9 mile Circuit Race at the N.E.C. Birmingham, organised by the Beacon R.C.C.
Jack O’Neill, won the section for riders using standard road machines and his time of 21 mins 17 secs was only beaten by 7 riders using the special aero time trial bikes. Andy Oliver finished 4th fastest Veteran and 8th fastest in the same Road Bike section. Alice Hall, who joined the team early this year recorded a time of 25-15 to win the ladies race for road bikes, by a massive 35 secs.
On Saturday Warwick Junior Jack Fothergill rode the Curborough Circuit race near Litchfield Staffordshire. With 5 laps to go Jack put in a massive attack , dragging two other riders clear of the main field, but who refused to contribute to the effort to stay clear to the finish so they were caught within sight of the finish by a group of 13 riders. But Jack still manage a brilliant 4th place just missing out on a Podium place.
On Sunday 76 year old Mick Allen, won the 40 mile V.C. Sevele Road Race for riders 65+ on the popular Welland circuit near Malvern, Worcestershire.
Bank Holiday Monday saw riders travel to race at Darley Moor, near Ashbourne, Derbyshire. In the 1 1/4 hr race for riders 60 years and over Rugby based member Rob O’Connor riding his first race since fracturing his shoulder, finished a brilliant 2nd beaten only by the current World Masters Sprint Champion in a mass 40 up sprint for the finish. #
During the race some very powerful attacks were made by both O’Connor and new team member Jeff Baird, ex. Metro R.T. team in the North East but now based locally in an attempt to split the field but all the moves were brought back.
Another great performance by the Coventry based team.
