Successful Christmas for Jewson Team

Riders from the Coventry based Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe–McCann, enjoyed a very successful Christmas period of local racing.

On Boxing Day, at Kenilworth, the teams 19 year old former M.I,.Racing Academy rider Jude Chamberlain, produced a brilliant ride, against top International riders older and more experienced, when he finished 4th, behind winner Lewis Askey a full time professional riding for the World Tour team of F.D.J. in France. This was to be Jude’s final Cyclo Cross this season as he will ride during the Summer months for the Anglo-Italian team Zappie with many events planned abroad, before riding again next winter for M.I.Racing.

Just a few places behind Jude was local hero, 53 year old Darren Atkins a former winner of the event, in 6th place and 1st over 50 rider, his team mate and many times winner of the event, Steve Knight was 2nd best 50 rider – Wellesbourne rider Jimmy Goodwin was 18th.

In the over 60’s race Jewson’s Kirby Bennett finished 2nd, still suffering from a recent vaccination and team mates Peter Busby 3rd and Tim Stowe 4th

Lady team member Lindsay Newman won the over 50 ladies race.

Two days later the Team contested the British Masters Cyclo Cross Championships held on a new course at Napton, South Warkwickshire organised by Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe–McCann.

The event attracted riders from all over the U.K. and the promoting Club enjoyed success, with ever reliable and consistent rider Steve Knight a former British Senior and Veteran Champion at Cyclo Cross and mountain bike. Steve won the 55+ Championship with team mate Harvey Levann producing his best ride of the season to finish in 3rd place and team mate Jimmy Goodwin also producing his best ride in 4th place.

In the 60’s+ Championship Kirby Bennet finished 3rd and Pete Busby 4th. In the 65+ race Tim Stowe finished a brilliant 2nd to claim the silver medal, Alan Parson finishing 8th

Its been another fantastic year for the M.I.Race Team, having celebrated its 25th anniversary in November. In that time the Team has won 18 World Masters Championships, 3 European Championships, over 75 British Championships and has organised over 60 Open events – many of those being Championships.

Team Boss Mick Ives said, “I never thought we would reach 25 years, let alone win all of those Championships but this could be just the start as we have a fantastic line up for 2023 with some fantastic backing, details of which I will release in the New Year!
