Cyclo Cross riders are a hard bunch of sportsmen, and over the Christmas period and this weekend, the training in adverse conditions paid off, for Coventry based race team –“Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe”–with a string of successful performances.

On Boxing Day 6 riders from the team contested the Classic –Kenilworth Boxing Day event–the 61st running of the race–the longest running Cyclo Cross in the UK.

Former British Senior and Veteran Champion , was at his best, –the Veteran rider , fast approaching 50 yrs of age, worked his way thro the 80 strong field following his usual slow start, , passing riders 30 yrs his younger, eventually finishing in 6th fastest position and first Veteran rider –Knight is a 6 times winner of the event.

His team mate Mark James who is just 2 yrs younger than Knight, finished 11th overall and 4th best Veteran , and Midland series Champion for past 2 seasons–Phil  Blacker finished 12th fastest and 5th best Veteran–All 3 riders will represent Team Jewson in the British Championships in 2 weeks time.—British over 50 National Champion  Phil Roach ( Rugby ) –gave more honours to Team Jewson–M.I.Racing , by winning the 50+ event–with ease.

 Commentator for the event was 5 times World Masters Cyclo Cross Champion , and winner of the race in 1970 –Mick Ives–Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe

 On Sunday several of the team competed in the Western League event a Gloucester Phil Roach – ( Rugby )-was once AGAIN IN BRILLIANT FORM , WITH HIS 2ND VICTORY OVER Christmas,, FINISHING A LONG WAY CLEAR OF HIS RIVALS.

Mark James finished 3rd in the 40+ Veterans race– –Coventry member of the team–Pete Busby finished 4th best 50+ Veteran and Team mate Tim Stowe ( Wellesbourne ) finished 5th–both riders will be backing Phil Roach in an attempt to win back the British Team Championships at the Nationals in 2 weeks.

In the mean Time–Roach and Busby along with Marton’s Barrie Mitchell will contest the UCI World Masters Championships in Switzerland, where Roach has a brilliant chance of making the Podium for the first time
