Ives Wins Again

Team Boss Mick Ives won his 84th British Cycling Championship on Sunday,
when he retained his L.V.R.C. National Time Trial Championship, on a very
hilly course in South Warwickshire over 16 miles.

It was touch and go if Ives competed as he crashed very heavily in an
event in Belgium last Sunday, hurting his hand and fingers and severely
damaged his Knee Cap and was unable to ride his bike until the day before
the Time Trial.  Ives is hoping he will be in better shape for his next event, 
which is in Italy.

Team mate Barrie Mitchell from Marton finished 2nd in the 65+ Championships
The Championships were organised by Team M.I.Racing and Sponsored by
Coventry based Jewson. Team M.I.Racing are the only Cycling Club in the area to 
promote National Cycling Championships this season; Circuit Champs; Time Trial Champs
and Cyclo Cross Champs.

This brings the tally of British Championship for the Team  this season to
20.--No other Club or Team in the U.K. can match that
 
Team Jewson's leading Road Race rider Mike Twelves from Hinckley proved
once again he is the leasing U.K.rider over 50 yrs of age. For the 3rd year running 
Twelves has won the coverted "Percy Stallard" National Road Race series.  He has 
also won the T.L.I. Veterans National Road Race Championships and T.L.I. National 
Circuit Road Championships this season.
 
The Teams Cyclo Cross riders were also in cracking form at the Heart  of England 
Cyclo Cross at Fillongley.  Coventry member Peter Busby won the 50+ Race with Tim 
Stowe in 3rd place.  Nuneaton based member Dave Ross won the 60+ race; and Martine
Verweij won the Veteran Ladies race - her 2nd win in 2 starts, with team mate
Stephanie Peters 2nd.

In the Veterans race for riders 40+ Steve Knight finished 2nd and team mate
Phil Blacker 3rd; and new signing Carl Sturgeon 5th. Junior rider Keir Lewis who 
has recently joined M.I.Racing from Stratford Cycling Club, finished 6th .
 
At the N.E.C. Cycle Show in Birmingham The Team had mixed fortunes.
Phil Blacker won the 40+ race.  World Masters Champion Phil Roach, riding his first 
event of the season, won the 50+ race and team mate Kirby Bennett finished 2nd.
 
But a big upset in the Ladies race, when Stephanie Peters crashed heavily and broke 
her Collar Bone, which will mean she will be side lined for most of the season.
 
In round 4 of the Midland series at Baggeridge Country Park Kirby Bennett won 
the 50 + race with Peter Busby 2nd and Tim Stowe 4th.  Steve Knight finished 2nd in
the 40+ race.
 
Time Trial Star 22 year old Jonathan Wears was in fantastic form winning the 
Coventry Road Club Open 10 mile Time Trial with a very fast time of 19 mins 59 secs
on Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning winning the Marlow-Westerley Open 10 
mile in Buckinghamshire with a time of 20 mins 20 secs - bringing his tally to 4 
Open Individual victories and 1 Team victory.
