“Team Jewson—M.I.Racing—Polypipe—McCann” cycling team , won races both in the U.K. and in Belgium over the Holiday weekend.—once again proving to be one of the leading Cycle Race Teams in the U.K.
14 yr old Ed Hopkins a member of the M.I.Youth Racing Academy, was part of a strong Youth team that was invited to take part in a special Circuit race in Belgium –the Team was managed by former Professional and 10 times British Champion Mike Twelves.
Team member Rory Knowles look to be the teams number 1 contender for victory , having won 4 out of 5 of the special lap prizes , only to get involved in a crash in the closing stages of the race , and suffered a broken collar bone.—not to be out done , team mate Ed Hopkins jumped clear and soloed to victory , ,–an impressive display of riding by the Coventry based squad., which impressed the Belgium Organisers—further Invitations have already been made to the team for later in the season.
Nearer home several members of the team contested the Coventry C.C. Open 10 ml Time Trial , held on the “ Pot Holed “ roads near Wolvey , Warwickshire.
44 yr old Dave Kiernan, who lives at Barton in the Beans , Nr Nuneaton, rode a brilliant race against his younger rivals to finish in 2nd fastest , with a time of 20 mins 50 secs , on what is considered a slow course.
Dave recently won his first British Championship , when he won the L.V.R.C. National Time Trial Championships over a tough hilly 18 ml course in S.Warwickshire—and is certainly a man on form.
With the backing of Andy Green with a time of 22mins 2 secs, and Leamington member Mark Wise with 22 mins 38 secs , Team Jewson—M.I.Racing—Polypipe—McCann clinched the Team Award , beating the highly rated Team Bottrill.
During the week
Mike Twelves won the Mallory Park Thursday ev. Circuit race , breaking clear of the field with just over 1 lap to go –—-2 weeks earlier Twelves had won his 10th British Cycling Championship, when he competed in the 50+ L.V.R.C. National Time Trial Championships .
Twelves is also the organiser of the Tuesday and Thursday Ev Circuit Races at Mallory Park , Leicestershire.–M.I Race Team promote events on the Mallory Park circuit , because there are no facilities available in or around Coventry .
Entries for the “Battle of Edge Hill “ 2 stage Road Race, once again Sponsored by “ Polypipe” and held in S.Warwickshire—this year the event is open ONLY to riders 50 yrs and over and consists of a 46 ml Hilly Road Race , and a 7 ml Flat Time Trial, –Organiser Mick Ives , has already received entries from all over the U.K.
