Team Jewson–M.I.Racing–Polypipe Veteran rider and 20 times British Cycling Champion, Barrie Mitchell was in brilliant form on Sunday at Round 10 of the West Midlands Cyclo Cross series event, held at Top Barn, near Worcester. Mitchell not only pulverized the riders in the 65+ race, but also for the second week in succession beat all the riders in the 60+ race, and many riders up to 15 years his junior. After several seasons away from the Cyclo Cross scene, the Multi National Champion, has his sights set firmly on this seasons National Championships, to add to his already impressive Cycling C.V.
More success for the Coventry based Jewson Team saw Mark James finish a brilliant 2nd and team mate Phil Blacker (the current Midland series champion), in 3rd place in the Veteran Race for riders 40 and over (Blacker also being the 1st 40+ rider). Both riders will form part of a very strong Team for the British Championships in Jan 2015.
British over 50 Champion Phil Roach –Team Jewson–won round 10 of the Nott’s and Derby series at Markeaton Park Derby on Saturday afternoon, and finished 3rd behind winner and former Professional Tim Gould, at Top Barn on Sunday morning.
Wellesbourne’s Tim Stowe has shown signs of getting back to form with yet another victory in the 55+ race,
And Team mate Pete Busby , 7th on Sat at Markeaton Park , Derby on Saturday and 7th again at Top Barn.
Coventry’s 5 times UCI World Masters Cyclo Cross Champion Mick Ives will be out of action for some time, following a major Back operation , –but this is NOT the end of his racing career. Already winner of 82 British Cycling Championships, ( A National Record )–he hopes to make it 90 before he hangs up his wheels for good……watch this space.
