Once again Hinckley based rider Mike Twelves proved he is without doubt the No1 over 50 rider on the Road in the U.K.
52 yr old Twelves smashed a class field on Sunday to win “The League International” ( T.L.I.) National Road Race Championships for riders 45 yrs and over. The 72 mile event was held over some tough roads in Cheshire, made harder by a strong wind.
Twelves was always in the action and part of a breakaway group that formed early in the race, never to be seen again by the rest of the field. With 10 miles to go Twelves attacked and soloed to the finish having a 2 minute lead on the next rider by the time he crossed the Finish Line.
Mike Twelves has now won the T.L.I. National Circuit Championships and the T.L.I. National Road Race Championships this season, along with another 5 Open Road Race victories including the Tommy Godwin Mem. and the Geoff Armstrong Mem. races
In 2 weeks time he is the Organiser of the L.V.R.C. National Circuit Championships at Curborough Near Lichfield in conjunction with Team M.I.Racing. The Coventry based team would have liked to have promoted these British Championships in Coventry but no facility could be found and they have had to go away to Staffordshire to promote the event.
Team Jewson’s Pete Smith won the Tuesday Evening Milton Keynes Circuit race, his 6th victory there this season. Smith is preparing for what he hope to be a good Cyclo Cross season.
